Municipality of Amsterdam: applying for a new passport or renewing your old one

Applying for a passport for a child under 18

You and your child can apply for a passport together at a City Office. A child that’s 12 years old or over can apply for a passport alone.

If the child is not accompanied by both parents:
- a written statement of permission from the other parent or guardian.
- a copy of a valid passport, ID card or driver’s licence for the other parent or guardian.

If the child comes alone:
- written statement of permission from each parent or guardian
- a copy of a valid passport, ID card or driver’s licence for each parent or guardian.

Statement of consent

The parent/legal guardian who does not attend the appointment must complete a digital consent form in advance using DigiD. The consent is valid for a maximum of 2 months.

Statement of consent (form in Dutch)

You must visit a City Office in person.

  • Adults: € €83.85. An urgent application costs  €140.95
  • Children up to the age of 18: €75.80. An urgent application costs  €132.90

After around a week, you can collect your passport yourself from the municipality. This also applies to children up to the age of 18. When you apply, you will be provided with more information about how to collect your passport.

Do you need your passport sooner than that?

  • If you need your passport quickly, you can make a spoedaanvraag (urgent request). If you apply for the passport before 14:00, you will be able to collect it the next working day. Allow for some delay if you no longer have your old passport.
  • If you need the passport today, contact the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Netherlands Marechaussee) for an emergency passport.
