Municipality of Amstelveen: applying for a new passport or renewing your old one
You can only apply for a new Dutch passport or renew your old one if you live in the Netherlands and are registered with the municipality.
Do you have Dutch nationality, but no fixed place of residence? Then you can contact a Dutch border municipality to apply for a new passport or to renew your old one.
- A colour passport photo that meets the national passport photo requirements (in Dutch).
- Your passport and identity card, even if they have expired.
- If you are applying for a passport for your child(ren), they must come with you when applying for and collecting the passport. You must bring a valid passport, identity card or driving licence. A copy is not permitted. For children up to and including 17 years of age, both parents/guardians must give their written permission. A declaration of consent (in Dutch) must be filled out by both parents in advance.
You must apply for a passport in person at the Town Hall. For this, you will need to make an appointment (in Dutch) online in advance.

The new passport will be ready for you to collect after 5 working days for a maximum of 3 months. You can collect your passport without making an appointment at the Town Hall.
Do you need your passport sooner?
- If you need your passport urgently, you can make a spoedaanvraag (urgent request). If you apply for the passport before 14:00, you will be able to collect within 2 working days. Allow for some delay if you no longer have your old passport.
- If you need the passport today, contact the Koninklijke Marechaussee (Royal Netherlands Marechaussee) for an emergency passport.
Validity
- An adult passport is valid for 10 years.
- For children up to the age of 18, a passport is valid for 5 years.
