Municipality of Olst-Wijhe: applying for Dutch citizenship by naturalisation
Has your request to become a Dutch national been approved?
Then you will be invited to a naturalization ceremony where you will receive the naturalization decision.
For naturalization you must meet the following conditions, among others:
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have lived continuously and legally in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius or Saba with a valid residence permit for 5 years prior to the request.
- You are integrated into Dutch society.
- There is no objection to your indefinite stay in the Netherlands.
- You do not pose a threat to public order, morality and national security in the Netherlands.

Children up to the age of 15 can naturalize with their parents. The conditions for this include:
- Your children live in the Netherlands at the time of the application.
- Your children have a permanent residence permit or a temporary residence permit for a non-temporary purpose.
Is your child 16 or 17 years old?
Then your child must have lived in the Netherlands continuously and legally for at least 3 years before applying.
- a valid proof of identity;
- a valid residence document;
- your birth certificate;
- your marriage certificate (only if you got married abroad);
- your integration diploma;
- enough money. You can pay in cash or with your debit card.
Do you have a report of the initial or further interview? Bring this too.
If the deeds are not in Dutch, English or German, you must have them translated by a sworn interpreter or translator. In addition, some foreign documents must be legalized or contain an apostille.

- a valid proof of identity;
- a valid residence document;
- your birth certificate;
- your marriage certificate (only if you got married abroad);
- your integration diploma;
- enough money. You can pay in cash or with your debit card.

Sometimes someone does not have to pay these costs. Ask the IND about the possibilities.
A maximum of 1 year is required for the assessment and approval of your request. The procedure consists of 3 parts: one part at the municipality and one part at the IND and one part at the municipality for the naturalization ceremony.
