Municipality of Bergen (L): applying for Dutch citizenship by naturalisation

What you need to bring:

• Your residence permit;
• Your valid passport or other travel document;
• Your birth certificate;
• Your civic integration diploma (or a comparable diploma).

Are you married, in a registered partnership, or living with a Dutch partner? Then also bring one of the following documents:

• Marriage certificate;
• Registered partnership certificate;
• Proof that you have been living with a Dutch partner for 3 years or more.

Important information regarding foreign documents

Foreign documents must be in Dutch, English, French, or German. If not, have the documents translated by a certified translator in the Netherlands. Before your appointment, ask the municipality whether legalizing your foreign documents is necessary. For more information, click on verify foreign documents.

If you meet the conditions, you can make an appointment for your naturalisation application. Contact the municipality of Bergen (L) via (+31) 485 348383 or visit the town hall during opening hours.

You pay a fee for this service. For more information, contact the municipality.

• The municipality assesses whether you meet all conditions for naturalisation and provides the Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst – IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) with advice. The municipality sends your file to the IND.
• The IND checks whether you meet all conditions and takes a decision. The IND must take a decision within 12 months. If you have any questions about the application in the meantime, you can contact the IND.
• You officially become a Dutch citizen only after the naturalisation ceremony.
• You can apply for a Dutch travel document 1 week after the naturalisation ceremony.
