Municipality of Amstelveen: applying for Dutch citizenship by naturalisation
You can apply for Dutch nationality through naturalisation or an option procedure. The option procedure is faster, but not available for everyone.
You can only apply in Amstelveen if you are registered in Amstelveen.
- Valid passport.
- Valid verblijfsvergunning (residence permit) from the Netherlands.
- For a naturalisation request from an adult: your integration diploma, comparable diploma or exemption.
- Are you also applying for your partner and/or children? Then you will also need copies of these documents for them.
With the application form you can start your application for Dutch nationality. This will be followed by an appointment at the Town Hall.
You pay a fee for this service. For more information, please visit the municipality of Amstelveen website.
Naturalisation
- After submitting the application form, you will receive an email within 28 working days with an invitation for an appointment at the town hall. The email will state which documents you need to bring to the appointment.
- The municipality assesses whether you meet all conditions for naturalisation and provides the Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst – IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) with advice.
- The IND checks whether you meet all conditions and makes a decision. The IND must make a decision within 12 months. If you have any questions about the application in the meantime, you can contact the IND.
Option procedure
- The municipality makes a decision within 13 weken after receiving your application. We can extend this term once.
- You officially become a Dutch citizen only after the naturalisation ceremony. From the next working day after the ceremony, you can make an appointment to apply for a Dutch passport and/or a Dutch identity card.
