Applying for a disabled parking space

Do you have a disability and want to park your car close to your home or workplace? If so, you can apply for a parking space for the disabled at your municipality. This is a parking space in which other people with a disability can also park their car.

There are conditions for obtaining a disabled parking space .The municipality will consider, for example:

The parking space for people with disabilities is not just for one person. It is not linked to a vehicle registration number. Other people with disabilities can park their vehicles in this space as well. They must, however, also have an EU parking card for people with disabilities.

Applying for a disabled parking space

Are you unable to walk? Then you can apply for a disabled parking space for your own car or microcar. You can do this for your home, work or study address.

For a driver who drives the car himself

  • according to the medical advice of the inspection body, you can walk a maximum of 50 meters with or without aids or you can walk 50 to 100 meters and it is very difficult to find a parking space (very high parking pressure)
  • according to medical advice, a temporary walking restriction must be longer than 1 year
  • you live, work or study in the municipality of Utrecht
  • for a disabled parking space at your home address you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) at that address
  • for a disabled parking space at your work or study address, you must submit proof from your employer or educational institution. This must state that you work or study there
  • the license plate of the car is in your name or in the name of your partner. If the license plate is in the name of a leasing company or company you work for, you will need a statement from the license plate holder that you are the day-to-day driver

For a passenger that drives along in the car

  • according to the medical advice of the inspection body, you can walk a maximum of 15 meters without aids
  • according to medical advice, a temporary walking restriction must be longer than 1 year
  • you can not remain alone at your home when the driver collects and parks the car
  • you depend on the assistance of a driver for door-to-door transportation. For example, you cannot be left alone when the driver parks the car. Or you need help from the driver getting in and out of the car or entering a shop (according to the medical advice of the inspection body)
  • there are no options to get in or out in front of your home. (Sometimes it is not possible to build a parking space, because this creates a danger or nuisance for other traffic)
  • you are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) at the same address as the driver of the car
  • the registration number of the car is in your name or in the name of a housemate. If the license plate is in the name of a leasing company or company, you will need a statement from the license plate holder stating that the driver is the day-to-day user of the car

Lease car

1. Lease contract in your name

You request a driver's statement from the person named on the vehicle registration certificate (the license plate holder) and add this statement to your application. This driver's statement:

  • is on official company stationery
  • not older than 6 months
  • is signed by the license plate holder

The statement holds:

  • your name
  • that you are the driver of the car
  • the license plate of the car

2. Lease contract in the name of your employer

You ask your employer for a copy of the lease contract and a driver's statement. This driver's statement:

  • is on official company stationery
  • not older than 6 months
  • is signed by your employer

The statement holds:

  • your name
  • that you are the driver of the car
  • the license plate of the car

Company car

You ask your employer for a driver's statement. This driver's statement:

  • is on official stationery
  • is not older than 6 months
  • is signed by the license plate holder

The statement holds:

  • your name
  • that you are the driver of the car
  • the registration number of the car

Your partner's car

1. Married or registered partner

Then you don't need anything. This information is known to the municipality.

2. Social contract

From your cohabitation contract, please enclose:

  • the first page with the names of both partners
  • the last page with the signatures of the notary and both partners

Parking space at your home

  • You may send a photo of the place where you would prefer to have it.

Parking space at employer

  • Enclose proof from your employer showing that you work at the specified address.
  • You may send a photo of the place where you would prefer to have the parking spot.

Parking lot at educational institution

  • Enclose proof from your educational institution showing that you follow education at the specified address.
  • You may send a photo of the place where you would prefer to have it.

• keep in mind that the inspection is usually within a few weeks and you must then be available
• you pay directly with iDEAL
• are you applying for the parking ticket for someone else? Do not enter your own details, but those of the person who needs the card.

You pay these costs directly when applying:

  • € 63,25 contribution towards the costs of medical advice
  • € 38,25 costs for processing the application

Other costs

  • € 295,85 contribution to the costs of constructing a disabled parking space (you pay this after approval of your application)
  • € 63,25 to change the number plate at the lower plate at a parking space for the disabled (you pay this if you have a different car)
