Were you born in the Netherlands? Do you live in the Netherlands and have a DigiD? If so, you can apply for your birth certificate online. You can also use your DigiD to apply for your birth certificate from outside the Netherlands.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you. You do this by:

• completing the authorization form
• give the person whom apply your birth certificate a copy of your valid identity document

Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:

• Send a letter to : Burgerzaken gemeente Tiel, P.O. box 6325, 4000 HH TIEL, The Netherlands.
• In the letter, state your year of birth, name, address and what you need the certificate for.
• Would you like a multilingual extract/international extract of birth certificate? Please indicate this in your letter
• Sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document.

Applying in the Netherlands

You will receive the birth certificate by post after no more than 5 working days.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
