Were you born in the Netherlands? Do you live in the Netherlands and have a DigiD? If so, you can apply for your birth certificate online. You can also use your DigiD to apply for your birth certificate from outside the Netherlands.

Applying at the service desk, by appointment
You can apply for your birth certificate at the service desk of your municipality. First make an appointment via the website (in Dutch). Take a valid identity document with you.
Applying from outside the Netherlands
No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.
Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:
- Send a letter to the municipality Súdwest-Fryslân.
- In the letter, state your year of birth, name, address and what you need the certificate for.
- Sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document.
You pay a fee for this service. For more information, contact the municipality (in Dutch).
Applying in the Netherlands
You will receive the birth certificate by post after no more than 5 working days.
Applying from outside the Netherlands
The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands as soon as possible. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
