Were you born in the Netherlands? Do you live in the Netherlands and have a DigiD? If so, you can apply for your birth certificate online. You can also use your DigiD to apply for your birth certificate from outside the Netherlands.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.

Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:

• Send a letter and state your year of birth, name, address and what you need the certificate for.
• Sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document.
• Send it to:

Applying in the Netherlands

In case of an online application, you will receive the birth certificate within 10 working days.
In case of an application by post, you receive the certificate within 4 weeks.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands within 4 weeks. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
