Municipality of Nijmegen: applying for a copy of a birth certificate

If you apply online

DigiD

Do you not have a DigiD yet? You can apply for DigiD if you have the following:

• Dutch nationality;
• valid Dutch passport or identity card;
• citizen service number (Dutch abbreviation: BSN);
• registration in the Registration of Non-Residents (RNI);
• phone number;
• email address.

When booking an appointment

• your identity document;
• debit card or cash.

If you ask someone to apply for you

• copy of your identity document;
• debit card or cash;
• identity document of the person you authorize;
• your written permission. Include in the permission:
  • your name and date of birth;
  • the name of the person you give permission;
  • that you give the person permission to apply for a birth certificate for you;
  • whether you need an official copy of your birth certificate or an (multilingual international) extract;
  • your signature.

Applying online

Were you born in the Netherlands? Do you live in the Netherlands and have a DigiD? If so, you can apply for your birth certificate online. 

You can also use your DigiD to apply for your birth certificate from outside the Netherlands (in Dutch).

When online application is not possible

No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.

Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:

• Send a letter to:
  Gemeente Nijmegen
  Postbus 9105
  6500 HG Nijmegen
  The Netherlands.
• State that you require a birth certificate and mention your date of birth.
• State whether you need and official copy or a (multilingual international) extract.
• State your name, address and what you need the certificate for.
• Sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document.

A birth certificate costs: € 17,10.

Applying online

Your online application will be processed and sent by post within 1 week.

Applying by appointment

You will receive the birth certificate immediately after your appointment. Exception: we will send the multilingual international extract to you by post within 3 - 4 weeks.
