Applying online

Were you born in the Netherlands? Do you live in the Netherlands and have a DigiD? If so, you can apply for your birth certificate online (only in Dutch). You can also use your DigiD to apply for your birth certificate from outside the Netherlands.

Applying by post

If you can't apply for your birth certificate online, you can send us a letter:

Make sure to send us the documents below together with our letter:

• A copy of your valid identity document.
• A letter which states what you need the birth certificate for.
• Your signature on the letter.

Applying at the service desk

You can apply for your birth certificate at the service desk of your municipality. In order to do this, please make appointment by calling the municipality at phone number +31 182 58 84 44. Take a valid identity document with you.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.

A birth certificate costs money. For more information about the costs, call the municipality at phone number +31 182 58 84 44 or send an e-mail to gemeente@gouda.nl.

Applying in the Netherlands

You will receive the birth certificate by post after no more than 5 working days.

Applying from outside the Netherlands

The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands within 4 weeks. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
