Applying at the service desk
You can apply for your birth certificate at the service desk of your municipality. Take a valid identity document with you. Make an appointment via the website or via +31 485 49 41 41.
Applying from outside the Netherlands
No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.
Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:

6590 HD Gennep - In the letter, state your year of birth, name, address and what you need the certificate for.
- You and the person you authorised need to sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document and the valid identity document of the one you authorised.
A birth certificate costs €17.10.
Applying in the Netherlands
- If you request the transcript or excerpt in person at the municipality, you will receive it immediately. This also applies if you authorize someone to do so.
- If you request the transcript or excerpt online or in writing, the municipality will send it to you by mail.
Applying from outside the Netherlands
The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands as soon as possible. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
