Applying at the service desk
You can apply for your birth certificate at the service desk of your municipality. Take a valid identity document with you.
Make an appointment (in Dutch).
Applying from outside the Netherlands
No DigiD? You can also authorise someone to apply for the birth certificate for you at the service desk.
Alternatively, you can apply for your birth certificate by post:
- Send a letter to the Postbus 36, 1780 AA Den Helder.
- In the letter, state your year of birth, name, address and what you need the certificate for.
- Sign the letter. Attach a copy of your valid identity document.
A birth certificate costs: € 17.10.
Request at the counter
You will receive the birth certificate immediately.
Application online or by post in the Netherlands
You will receive the birth certificate by post after a maximum of 5 working days.
Applying from outside the Netherlands
The municipality will send the birth certificate to your address outside the Netherlands. The time taken by the postal service varies from country to country.
