Municipality of Hoorn: applying to collect a driving licence
Please note: you can only apply for a driving licence if you live in the Netherlands and are registered in the city of Hoorn.
How long are driving licences valid?
- Under 65 years of age: valid for 10 years.
- Between 65 and 70 years of age: valid until your 75th birthday.
- Between 70 and 75 years of age: valid for 5 years.
- Over 75 years of age: valid for a maximum of 5 years.
- Your previous driver's license (except for a first application or missing).
- A matching passport photo in colour. The passport photo is no more than six months old at the time of application. More information about the requirements for a passport photo can be found on the website of the Dutch government.
- A debit card (or cash).
- Is your driver's license expired or missing? Please also bring a valid proof of identity (passport or identity card).
You must also have a statement of suitability in the following cases:
- If your driver's license expires on or after your 75th birthday.
- If you want to renew a bus or truck driver's license (C or D).
- If you have a medical disability.
You do not have to bring the declaration of suitability. The CBR passes this on to the municipality.
Renew online or add category
Is your old driver's license about to expire? Or do you want to have a category added? You can then submit the application via the RDW website. You can then pick up the driver's license at the town hall without an appointment after 2 working days.
First driver's license or renewal at city hall?
Then make an appointment. You can collect your driver's license from 10 a.m. 5 working days after your application or have it delivered free of charge. You can also have a category added at City Hall by appointment. It is not necessary to make an appointment for pick-up.
Urgent request
With an urgent application, the driving license is ready after 1 to 2 working days. Read all about delivery on the Bezorgen rijbewijs page.
Lost or stolen driver's license?
You do not have to report it to the police if your driving license is stolen or lost. You make an appointment to apply for a new driving licence. Report via the RDW website that your driving license has been lost or stolen.

- Spoedaanvraag (urgent request): € 90,76
- ‘Eigen Verklaring’ (self-declaration) for the medical examination: € 44,50
You can collect your driver's license from 10 a.m. 5 working days after your application or have it delivered free of charge. It is not necessary to make an appointment for pick-up.
