Municipality of Oudewater: acknowledging parenthood of your child
You must go to the municipality in person to officially acknowledge parenthood of your child and to choose a surname. You can make an appointment for this before the birth of the child or after the birth of the child.
If you do not hold Dutch citizenship or you live outside the Netherlands, other rules may apply. You will receive more information and advice about your personal situation during your appointment.
-You have permission from the mother if the child is younger than 12 years old.
-You have permission from the mother and the child if the child is between 12 and 16 years old.
-You have permission from the child if the child is 16 years or older.
- A valid ID of yourself and the mother.
- Written consent from the mother if the child is younger than 12 years old.
- Written consent from the mother and the child if the child is between 12 and 16 years old.
- Written consent from the child if the child is 16 years or older.
- If you want to acknowledge a first child and change his/her surname, please bring the mother to your appointment. in this case, written permission is not required.
Official acknowledgement and choice of surname are free of charge.
