Municipality of Nunspeet: acknowledging parenthood of your child

If you are not married and you do not have a registered partnership, then a child legally has only one mother at birth. If you want to acknowledge the child, you can make an appointment for this. There is no charge for acknowledging a child.

  • A valid ID of the mother
  • A valid proof of identity for yourself (the person acknowledging)
  • If the (expectant) mother does not come along, she must give written permission for recognition
  • If the child was born in another municipality: the birth certificate
  • Any additional documents. After 16 years, only the child's consent is required

Official acknowledgement are free of charge.

The acknowledgement cannot always be processed immediately. This depends on the personal situation of the child and the person acknowledging the child. For example, acknowledgement takes longer if the child was born before 1985 or if the person having the child officially recognised does not hold Dutch citizenship.
